MIDO Exhibition - Extra Edition - Lafont, Paris

The report on the MIDO exhibition held in Milan, Italy, is now in its extra edition.

After the exhibition, instead of returning directly from Milan, I stopped by Paris, France, to visit Lafont's flagship store. The Eiffel Tower is the tallest building in Paris at 8:00 in the morning.

MIDO

We were fortunate to have clear skies in Paris, perfect weather for exploring the city.

MIDO

This is the famous department store Galeries Lafayette in Paris. The famous domed ceiling was very beautiful.

MIDO

This is the main Lafont store in the Paris Madeleine district, which is also a manufacturer of eyeglass frames, and still operates four stores in the Paris area as an active optician.

MIDO

The interior of the restaurant is very beautifully decorated in purple and yellow-green, giving it a sense of style. It has a classic feel, but it is calm and stylish. I would like to imitate them, but I believe that the atmosphere and history of the town, as well as the stores, have been cultivated over the years, so it would be difficult to succeed even if I just imitated their appearance.

MIDO

Also, the display on the facade is very cool and informative. I would like to create such a stylish and tasteful store. The mezzanine floor in the middle of the store is said to be a remnant of the store's gradual expansion into the back of the building.

MIDO

Thanks to the prior contact with the Japanese agency, we were treated very well by the staff at the store. Not only did they introduce us to the store, but they were also kind enough to show us around the workshop and lens processing area in the back of the store, which is only accessible to related parties.

They also accept custom-made glasses here, and they are able to resize them to fit your face, make one frame from scratch that has already been discontinued, or make a prototype of a new product at this workshop.

MIDO

I have visited a prototype eyeglass frame craftsman's workshop in Japan, and the size and appearance of the space looked just like his. Perhaps this kind of thing is common to all countries.

MIDO

He had just shown me a plastic frame that he used to use and liked very much, but it was discontinued and no longer available, so he asked me to custom-make exactly the same one for him.

MIDO

Lafont is a family-run independent eyeglass frame designer brand, in contrast to eyeglass manufacturers with huge capital. Of course, there are many differences between Lafont and other eyeglass brands due to their nationality, but as an optician, I could share many things with Lafont's designs.

I hope to be able to visit your store in Paris again at leisure.
